The State Farm NBA All-Star Night was full of BIG moments as National Basketball Association (NBA) players, stakeholders and celebrities gathered to participate in an evening of exhilarating sport challenges! Players from both the Eastern and Western Conferences teamed up to compete in the name of charity. The night resulted in the donation of $555,000 to local and national organizations as well as targeted youth in the community. Big Brothers Big Sisters of America was among those recipients, receiving $150,000!

For the first time, State Farm NBA All-Star Saturday Night featured a format that pitted the Western Conference against the Eastern Conference in competitive challenges of talent and skill. 2013 NBA All-Stars Dwyane Wade and Chris Paul served as team captains, for the Eastern and Western Conferences, respectively, and lead their teams during the competition. Our very own BBBSMD supporter and Detroit Piston, Brandon Knight, participated in the Taco Bell Skills Challenge, becoming the first Pistons player to participate in the NBA’s All-Star Saturday night activities since Arron Affalo joined Pistons legend Bill Laimbeer and former Detroit Shock star Katie Smith to win the Shooting Stars Competition during the 2009 NBA All-Star weekend in Phoenix, Arizona. As part of the new format, points earned by each conference during the competitions determined the conference that earned the title of 2013 State Farm All-Star Saturday Night Champion.

Knight and his fellow Eastern Conference teammates who included, Jrue Holiday (Philadelphia) and Jeff Teague (Atlanta), demonstrated talent, skill and remarkable dedication while playing impressively to benefit Big Brothers Big Sisters of America and Make-A-Wish America. Thank you to NBA Cares and State Farm for their consideration and generosity!
