Who knew potatoes could be so fun? Big Brothers and Big Sisters from the Compuware school-based program, alongside their Littles from Marcus Garvey Academy and Bunche Elementary-Middle School, explored the potato in all its forms with Lafayette Greens!

"Compuware's Big Brothers/Big Sisters and the Lafayette Greens worked with the youth at Marcus Garvey Academy and Bunche to learn about an amazing plant - the potato," shared Megan Heeres, Big Sister and Community Art and Garden Program Manager for Compuware Corporation.  "The youth created potato characters that have since been planted in the Lafayette Greens and are growing big and strong. Littles also decorated their own pots using a potato stamping technique and planted a sunflower to take home and plant. "We always enjoy working with Big Brothers Big Sisters to create fun memories," expressed Heeres.

Matches also learned interesting facts about the potato, how it grows and brainstormed different ways to eat and use them. Stations were setup for matches to explore the potato through hands-on activities including potato plant pots, potato stamps and stations for coloring and fun-fact crossword puzzles.

Compuware's partnership with Lafayette Greens afforded our Bigs and Littles a fun and creative outlet and a means to positively engage with one another and create memorable moments!
