Message From The President & CEO
THANK YOU
On behalf of our Board of Directors, staff, and the children we serve, please accept message of deep
thanks and gratitude. Your generosity, commitment and support have helped provide hope to over 1200
children matched with volunteer mentors through the creation of life transforming relationships.
We commend all of our funders and supporters for believing in our important mission to strengthen
children in need through one-to-one relationships with volunteer mentors. It is through the generosity
of the local and national foundation community, funding partners, national government agencies and corporate
partners that BBBSMD is able to deliver on our promise to our community’s young people, continuously improve
our service delivery and maintain a platform of best practices duplicated locally and across the country.
In this issue of Mentoring Matters, you will read about the many corporations and individuals who are
steadfast in their support of BBBSMD even in the midst of economic challenges. As a result, BBBSMD is able
to sustain our:

Reputation as a leader in the youth-service field, celebrating more than 100 years as the largest
mentoring organization in the United States and 35 years in southeastern Michigan

Strong brand recognition – nationwide, 88% of Americans recognize the name “Big Brothers Big Sisters”

Proven program outcomes – mentored youth have fewer absences from school, less drug and alcohol use,
fewer incidents of hitting others, and improved relationships with parents and elders

Leveraging of resources – Forbes placed BBBS on its Gold-Star list of the top 10 charities for its
excellence in efficiency and effectiveness

Variety of program options to engage employees in giving back to metro Detroit communities
We are extremely grateful to local and national foundations, corporations, individual donors and
volunteers who have helped to make a positive difference in the lives of children. Together, we are able
to weave an irreplaceable fabric of support for our community’s young people. Because you took action to
support BBBSMD, we are able to share and celebrate the power of mentoring and reach out to even more children
who need and want a mentor. And, for your generosity we say THANK YOU!
